Introducing the face behind the brand. We spoke with Marc, Creative Director of Mr Blackman’s. Marc shares what Black History Month means.
ABOUT MR BLACKMAN’S
Beauty Shortlist Awards Winner of Best Beard Oil 2018, and Finalist of Best Shaving Product in 2020, Marc Belle Creative Director of Mr Blackman’s certainly isn’t playing any games when it comes to the men’s grooming scene. With features in publications such as GQ, The Metro, and Sheen Magazine, Mr Blackman’s is definitely a brand to watch, so read on!
WHY DID YOU START YOUR BUSINESS?
It was time for a change. When it came to beard care there weren’t many products for men with Afro and curly hair, definitely not in the UK. At the same time, there was a need to change peoples’ relationships with cosmetics, or rather their relationship with us. Routines and products seem to have become complicated with hundreds of products that do similar things and ingredients no one knows the name of, with us having a different product for every small thing. Our aim is to challenge that and to simply routines and the products you use, so they are no fuss and you can spend more time living you.
WHAT DOES BLACK HISTORY MONTH MEAN TO YOU?
It’s a great opportunity for people to learn, connect and grow. Especially in countries where black culture is a minority. It’s easy for people to forget how things were or why they are the way they are and it’s an opportunity to highlight where changes have been made or still need to be.
WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE UK BLACK HAIR INDUSTRY?
One day it will just be the UK hair industry and we won’t have to make distinctions.
WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PRODUCT FROM YOUR RANGE?
Personally, I love the Cleansing Brick. It’s very multipurpose and we use it for everything ’round here.
